The Four-Way Test

In 1932, Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor created the Four-Way Test, a code of ethics adopted by Rotary International eleven years later.  The Test, which has been translated into more than one hundred languages asks the following questions:
Of the things we think, say or do,

First, Is it the TRUTH?
Second, Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Third, Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER Friendships?
Fourth, Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

The Rotary Club of Harrisonburg sponsors an Annual Ethics Awards Program for area elementary, middle and high school students.  A girl and boy student in the highest grade level in a school are selected for the Ethics Award by the school for their high ethical standards.  During the awards ceremony, the Four Way Test is presented to the students as a guide for their ethical behaviour throughout their lives.
