The Rotary Club of Harrisonburg Foundation will hold its annual Harrisonburg Rotary Golf Tournament presented by Good Wealth Management on April 20, 2012  at the Lakeview Golf Club.  This annual event has become one of the largest and most successful charity golf tournaments in Virginia. 2012 Grant Recipients

In the fall of 2011, the Harrisonburg Rotary Grant Review Committee worked diligently on updating the application process for selecting fund recipients. Grant guidelines and a call for applications to service organizations were distributed through The Community Foundation of Harrsionburg and Rockingham County and the United Way of Harrisonburg-Rockingham County. Thirty-two applications met the criteria and were evaluated along historic benchmarks for approval. The Grant Review Committee made their recommendations to the Board of Directors and it approved the charity recipients listed below (click on charity logo for a link to the charity's Web Site).

International Festival & Fairfield Center

The Fairfield Center was originally incorporated in 1982 as the first Community Mediation Center in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  The Center offers a comprehensive array of conflict resolution, communications excellence training, business services, restorative justice and civic engagement initiatives.  The International Festival is an annual event sponsored by the Fairfield Center hld on the last Saturday of every September.  The Festival celebrates the diversity of Harrisonburg and the surrounding communities by providing a friently forum in which cultural groups can showcase their cultural and linquistic values as a means to educate the larger community and to support awarenes for their presence and contribution.  Golf Tournament funding will support the purchase of transmitters and receivers for linquistic translation.

HARTS, Inc.

The Harrisonburg Rockingham Thermal Shelter, Inc. (HARTS, Inc.) has a mission to provide a shelter of last resort for people who have nowhere else to stay.  Their mission is to engage the community of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County in partnership to provide shelter, compassionate support and access to services for people who are homeless.  Golf Tournament Funding will support HARTS 2012 operating costs.

Massanutten Regional Library

The Massanutten Regional Library is a highly visible center for culture, technology and knowledge resources, serving the wide-ranging needs of a diverse community.  The Library system provides the community with a courteous, well-trained staff anda  comprehensive, balance collection of materials, programs and technology in a safe and welcoming environment.  Golf Tournament funding will support the implementation of a new Teen Room in the Library.

Shenandoah Valley Economic Education

SVEE's mission is to promote economic literacy among students in the Shenandoah Valley.  SVEE meets today's challenges with a full-time teacher consultant, group workshops and individualized training including the use of nationally recognized learning tools such as The Stock Market Game and the Mini-Society.  Thhis approach has proven successful year after year and has, in fact, become a model for Virginia and the rest of the country.  Golf Tournament funding will provide SVEE endowment funds to support its economic education activities and annual teacher awards.
